Audio compression reduces file size by encoding audio data at a lower bitrate. A lower bitrate means fewer bits per second, resulting in a smaller file at the cost of some audio quality. For speech and podcasts, 64–96 kbps is excellent. For music, 128 kbps is the standard minimum and 192 kbps is recommended for good listening quality.
Note: If your source file is already an MP3 at a lower bitrate than your chosen target, the output may be larger (you cannot add quality that was already lost). In this case, choose a bitrate equal to or lower than the original.
